Leigh Ann Scott of Jackson called to say that she took her 2-year-old daughter, Destiney, to the emergency room at Southeast Missouri Hospital on Sunday evening. Atwell Evans of Cape Girardeau was there ahead of them. When it was his time to be seen, even though he was in a wheelchair, he refused so that Destiney could be seen first.

Mary Gibson of Cape Girardeau called in about Mike Lasurer who planted all of her flowers and her daughter's flowers and washed her patio furniture. Although he holds three jobs he wouldn't accept a dime in payment. He said he was just glad to help.

Mrs. Albert Townsend of Jackson called to say that Glen Turnbough of Jackson mowed and trimmed Albert Townsend's yard while at church for his 88th birthday.

Kinder Care Learning Centers of Cape Girardeau baked muffins and brought over a big basket to Delta Asphalt Inc. corporate office across the street. They enjoyed everyone of them. Delta Asphalt in turn took ice cream treats to children and had food drive with employees to take to FISH and Food Pantry at New McKendree Church in Jackson.

Melanie Rudolph of AWHP Student Chapter of Southeast Missouri State University would like to thank the Southeast Missourian for organizing the first Random Acts of Kindness Week. A special thank you to Joni Adams and Peggy Scott for their hard work and dedication. Their genuine kindness was truly displayed this last week.

Sarah McGowan, a recreational therapist at Southeast Missouri Hospital called to say that Boatmen's Bank came to the hospital on Wednesday to the skill nursing unit and gave everyone flowers and sang hymns to patients while they ate.

Mary Sue Layton would like to thank Jan Dunham and son, the Papa John's delivery person, the young man just walking, Amisha Shah, a young man driving and a policeman who all stopped to help Jennifer Layton when her car stalled at Kingshighway and Cape Rock. The men helped her push the car off the road and Amisha drove her home.

An anonymous caller called about a man and his son mowing the two islands in the intersection of Route K and Mount Auburn Saturday. Now everybody can see the roses planted there.

Jeff Henry wants to thank the Thursday Quilters of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson for the opportunity to sing for them each week.

Katy Matlock, a kindergarten teacher at Shawnee Elementary South, called to say that Wal-Mart donated marigolds to give to the elderly in McClure, Ill.

Helen Sides, a member of St. James AME Church of Cape Girardeau, called to say they had worship service with the 10 to 12 residents of the Cape Nursing Center on Independence the night of May 17.

Joy Johnston takes the paper to the front porch on her morning walk on North Henderson Street. She does this for several of the neighbors.

Amy Twidwell of Cape Girardeau wants to thank the man who stopped his car Friday afternoon and ran down street to get her 3-year-old daughter's ball so she wouldn't run into the street after it.

Shirley and George Reeves are always a help. George is active with the Boy Scouts and mows yard for his daughter every summer.

Delores Tuller of Scott City called to report that her Wal-Mart co-worker, Lola Freeman, devotes a lot of her free time to helping the Children's Miracle Network. She has been organizing the fund-raising drive at the store for eight years.
