Shawnee School District will host a Child Fair at Shawnee Elementary North at Grand Tower on April 8 and at Shawnee Elementary South at McClure on April 15.
The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at both locations.
All families in the school district with children from ages birth to 6 are invited to participate in developmental screenings and visit exhibits.
The developmental screening, which is free, will consist of game-like activities to check speech, language, vision, hearing, fine and gross motor skills, cognitive and social skills.
Children who will be age 5 by Sept. 1, 1994, will also be registered for kindergarten. Kindergarten registrants must call for an appointment. At Grand Tower call 565-2211, or at McClure call 661-1504. Parents must bring the child's Social Security number, birth certificate and immunization record to register for kindergarten.
Health departments will be offering immunizations and lead screenings. The cost of each is about $5. Those receiving immunizations must present an immunization record and public aid medical card, if eligible.
While children are being screened, parents may visit exhibits by Southeast Missouri Hospital, Union County Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, Rural Health, Jackson County Health Department, Southern Seven Health Department, Union County Pre-K, Union County Parenting Program, Project Recovery, Headstart, Fellowship House, Shawnee College Literacy Program and University of Illinois Cooperative Extension.
Free gifts, a raffle drawing and refreshments will be available.
