State Sen. Peter Kinder, R-Cape Girardeau, has been appointed to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
"It is a tremendous opportunity to contribute to the writing of Missouri's annual $13 billion budget," he said.
"Appointment to this committee will provide me with a unique opportunity to help Southeast Missouri State University and all six counties in the 27th District.
"Previously, people have waited years to gain a seat on this panel. I feel enormously fortunate to have qualified in my first term," he said.
Kinder will fill the seat vacated by Sen. Emory Melton, R-Cassville, who is retiring after 24 years in the Missouri Senate.
Kinder is seeking a second term in the Senate. He is challenged by Democrat Rick Althaus.
