KFVS-12 and parent company Raycom Media have announced an agreement to buy WQWQ and WQTV, the local UPN affiliates serving the Cape Girardeau, Paducah, Harrisburg television markets.
KFVS is the area's CBS affiliate.
The agreement is pending FCC approval, said Mike Smythe, vice president and general manager of KFVS.
WWWQ/WQTV are currently owned by Engles Communications, Inc. based in California. The stations presently broadcast a low power signal over the air on channels 9 and 24 transmitting from facilities located in Paducah, Ky., and Murray, Ky. In addition, the signal is carried on numerous cable systems throughout the area.
"We see this as a great move for our four-state coverage," Smythe said.
UPN currently delivers popular network programming like "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer," "Enterprise" and the "WWE Smackdown." The stations also provide a variety of nationally syndicated programming.
Raycom Media is headquartered in Montgomery, Ala. The group owns 36 television stations, including five ABC, seven CBS, six FOX, 13 NBC and two UPN affiliates and one UPN/WB affiliate.
