KENNETT, Mo. — A man is in custody after police say a killing occurred in Kennett amid an ongoing dispute.

Officers believe a dispute led to the shooting death of Isaac Lee Jefferson, 27, of Kennett.

Demetrius Jamal Woods of Kennett later was charged with second-degree murder, according to the Kennett Police Department.

The Kennett Police Department said it received a 911 call about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday. Officers arrived on the scene shortly after the call and found Jefferson lying on the ground. Police said Woods arrived at the Kennett Police Department moments after the shooting and identified himself as the shooter.

Police say investigators still are looking for someone who saw the shooting or the incidents leading up to it. Anyone with information on the shooting may call the Kennett Police Department at (573) 888-4622.

A large crowd gathered outside a home surrounded by police tape Tuesday evening. Emotions ran high at the scene, with people seen and heard screaming and crying nearby.

The Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit was at the scene along with members of the Kennett Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
