KENNETT, Mo. -- One person died after shooting at a Kennett home Sunday afternoon, according to Dunklin County Coroner James Powell.

The investigation into the shooting has been turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control.

In a release on the department's Facebook page, the change in the investigation was made shortly after the shooting because of "special circumstances due to a conflict of interest with employees of the City of Kennett."

Officers were called to a home on Elm Drive at 3:18 p.m. Police said the suspect was armed when officers arrived on the scene, but the suspect was quickly taken into custody so emergency crews could treat the victim.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Twin Rivers Medical Center in Kennett. Powell said an autopsy is performed on the victim Tuesday.

Officials have not released the names of those involved in the shooting.
