KENNETT, Mo. -- The Kennett County Club is in ruins following a Monday fire that resulted in a total loss of the establishment.
According to the Kennett Fire Department, at 10:28 p.m., the department received calls from travelers passing the club reporting flames.
Firefighters were met by heavy flames and smoke when they arrived. Mutual aid was called in from the Hayti and Senath, Mo., fire departments, which brought tanker trucks, as well as the Caruthersville Fire Department, which manned the local fire stations so Kennett crews could work the scene.
Four tankers were used to extinguish the fire because no fire hydrants were in the vicinity.
Fire officials said they are not sure of the value of the loss; however, they estimate that it is more than $1 million.
Because the fire occurred at a business and resulted in a high-volume loss, the state fire marshal has been called in to assist with the investigation. The cause of the fire was undetermined Tuesday morning.
