KC man faces federal charges for calls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A Kansas City man who admitted making threatening phone calls to women in Missouri has been indicted by a federal grand jury on similar charges.

Daniel Travis Phillips is charged with calling eight women in Louisiana during January and February. Those calls allegedly crossed state lines, which could make him subject to federal charges.

Phillips pleaded guilty to misdemeanor harassment charges and was sentenced to 90 days in jail for calling three Cass County women in December. The caller claimed he was outside their homes and would come in and kill them unless they did what he told them.

Federal authorities say Phillips told the Louisiana women that he'd kill them or a relative if they didn't disrobe and carry out a sexual act.

The federal charges carry a five-year prison sentence.
