KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kansas City police have identified a mother and her daughter who were killed Monday when their car apparently was struck by a sport utility vehicle that was fleeing officers.
Tiffany Berry, 33, and 15-year-old Suavae Rouser were killed in the crash and Berry's two other daughters had minor injuries.
Capt. Rich Lockhart said the 42-year-old driver of the SUV is in custody. Police said he's a parole absconder and is being held on a no-bond warrant.
Lockhart said the incident started about 8 p.m. Monday when two officers tried stopping the SUV because the vehicle was being driven erratically. Two passengers in the vehicle got out and ran, but were caught and arrested.
The SUV driver fled, but police didn't pursue him.
Officers saw that the SUV had crashed a short time later and arrested the driver after he tried to run away.
One of the passengers from the truck is being held for possession of narcotics after police said they found that he had cocaine.
