Citing his broad experience, qualifications, and commitment to family values, State Rep. Mary Kasten Friday endorsed David Steelman in the Republican primary for attorney general.
"David Steelman is my friend. I served with him in the Legislature and I know that he will do an excellent job as attorney general," said Kasten, a Cape Girardeau Republican, at a press conference Friday afternoon with the candidate.
Kasten referred to Steelman as a "dependable and dedicated person."
Steelman, 39, an attorney in Rolla, said he believes having Kasten's support will be an "important factor for me in Cape Girardeau.
"The people here know Mary Kasten and her family. They know what they stand for. I am honored to have Mary's support and endorsement for attorney general," said Steelman.
He is in a hotly contested GOP primary race with John Hall, who has served as an assistant U.S. attorney the last few years and is a former aide to Sen. John Danforth.
The present attorney general, William Webster, is running for governor.
Steelman served in the Missouri House while practicing law in Salem from 1979 to 1984. During his last two terms, including one term when Kasten served in the House, he was minority floor leader.
