The Jackson High School Speech and Debate Team has just completed its most successful year yet.
There are 22 active members who participated in 11 tournaments this year.
The team won more than 60 trophies and medals during the season.
The team had six of nine individual events qualify for the state meet on April 24-26.
Missy Miller and Andy Dobson are two of the three qualifying entries in the Lincoln-Douglass Debate from Southeast Missouri.
Missy Miller qualified in the oratory category. Laura Chubboy qualified in dramatic interpretation and prose. Mark Stephens qualified in radio speaking and storytelling. Cabell Gathman qualified in poetry.
Trace Webster and Shaun Hanschen were finalists at the district meet, but did not qualify for state.
The team got second place Sweepstakes Trophy at the district meet losing to Poplar Bluff by three points.
This has been a record setting year for trophies and state qualifiers, Karen Kight, who also was honored at districts for 25 years as coach, said.
