Nearly one-third of Jackson High School's 292 graduating seniors who turned their tassels Friday night left JHS with college scholarships.

One of the brightest classes to go through JHS, the Class of 2000 carded 105 academic scholarships for a value of $1,1150,000. In addition, 23 seniors qualified for "Bright Flight" scholarships.

"The strong tradition of excellence at Jackson continues," said Dr. Ron Anderson, superintendent of schools.

The Class of 2000 was headed by Valedictirian Jamie Dost and Salutatorian Michael Williams. The commencement speech was given by Chris Warren, language arts teacher. She took graduates on a fictional tour of their future.

Tammy Bono, Laura Horst, Adam Sherinski and Jamie Wachter have received excellence awards to The University of Missouri-Columbia.

Adam Morris has earned a Missouri Higher Education Scholarship to Southwest Missouri State University.

Jenise Lichtenegger has earned a Missouri Higher Education Scholarship to Truman State University.

Julie Gerecke, Jenise Lichtenegger and Jennifer Stiegemeyer have received President's Combined Ability Scholarships to Truman State University.

Abby Burlbaugh is The recipient of a Presidential Scholarship to Freed-Hardeman.

Julie Gerecke has been awarded a President's Leadership Scholastic Scholarship and a President's Leadership Scholastic Scholarship both to Truman State University and a SBC Foundation Scholarship.
