CARBONDALE, Ill. -- "The Late Great Ladies of Blues and Jazz," a musical review created by and starring Sandra Reaves-Phillips, will be presented Feb. 5 at the Shryock Auditorium in Carbondale.

Reaves-Phillips adopts the singing and performances of some of the greatest female jazz and blues singers, including Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and Mahilia Jackson.

The review challenges the male-dominant history of the blues, and is part of Black History Month at Southern Illinois University. It is sponsored in part by grants from the Illinois Arts Council and by Arts Midwest.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance are $11 and $13 and can be ordered by calling the Shryock Auditorium box office at (618) 453-2787.
