James David "Jim" Grindstaff, 79, of Scopus passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, at his home. Jim was born Feb. 12, 1944, in Patton to Reagan and Martha Presnell Grindstaff.
He was a 1962 graduate of Patton High School. Jim was in the Army National Guard from 1962 to 1968.
He worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation in Jackson for over 30 years, prior to his retirement.
Jim enjoyed fixing saddles and tack for himself and was well known for repairing saddles for everyone. He loved to ride horses and piddle with his tractors. He had a collection of tractors and had a tractor for every job he had. Jim always had stories to tell, and most likely would put smile on your face.
On Aug. 14, 1965, James and Betty Green were united in marriage in Farmington. They spent six months together prior to getting married and the next 59 years side by side, raising their daughter, Connie. Jim and Betty coon hunted together and spent many days trail riding, with their daughter following in their footsteps.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty Grindstaff of the home; daughter, Connie Grindstaff of Scopus; brother, Doyle (Pat) Grindstaff of Patton; sister, Wanda (Ted) Cluck of Sedgewickville; and his granddog, Cactus.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers were Randy Green, Chad Green, Gary Long, Chris Green, Jerry Green and Lonnie Yount.
Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill.
Funeral service was on Monday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home, with Brother Jim Matthews officiating. Burial followed at the Countyline Cemetery.
