Jackson woman kllled after head-on crash

RED BUD, Ill. -- A Jackson woman died Monday afternoon in an automobile crash on Illinois Route 159 less than a mile north of Red Bud.

Stephanie Jo Camp, 44, of Jackson, Mo., was in the front passenger seat of a minivan, a 1995 Mercury Villager, driven southbound by Christine G. Trierweiler, 43, also of Jackson.

The van was hit head on by a northbound 1998 Ford Mustang driven by Rebecca Ann Cooper, 16, of Red Bud. Illinois State Police said Cooper told them she was passed illegally by an unidentified driver in a dark-colored car, perhaps a Chevrolet. That car may have forced the Mustang off the roadway onto the gravel shoulder, causing it to veer across the center line when it came back on, police said.

Trierweiler and her children, Casey Trierweiler, 5, and Dustin L. Trierweiler, 4, were taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill. Casey was treated and released. Dustin was transferred to St. Louis Children's Hospital. He was in good condition and was expected to be released.

Their mother was transferred to Barnes-Jewish, where she was in satisfactory condition.

Also killed was Jamie Cox, 16, of Red Bud. She was a passenger in the Mustang driven by Cooper. Two other passengers, Jessica Seibold, 16, and Laura Ruhlann, 16, both of Red Bud, were taken to St. Louis University Hospital.

Ruhlann was in serious condition. Seibold was undergoing surgery, and her condition was not available. Cooper was in satisfactory condition at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. All four girls were juniors at Red Bud High.
