The City of Jackson will begin flushing its water distribution and hydrant system west of U.S. 61 Tuesday.

The work will continue daily between 8 a.m. and noon until the program is complete, about 12 weeks.

Fire department crews flush water mains and hydrants once a year to remove mineral sediment that builds up in the pipes, improve water quality and maintain the valves and hydrants in the system.

Every household, business and industry may be affected regardless of the location of the flushing.

The city asks that people refrain from doing laundry, open and run taps to clear any discoloration that may exist, and wait for the water to clear up before using it for drinking or cooking.
