JACKSON - Although still two months away, planning for the 86th annual Jackson Homecomers Aug. 17-21 is well under way, including plans for the talent contests that will be held three of the four nights of Homecomers.

The event is sponsored by the Altenthal-Joerns Post 158, American Legion. It is held each August in the Jackson business district.

Talent Show Chairman Marvin Meier said entries are being accepted for the talent shows. "Amateur acts of all kinds singing, dancing, acrobatic and instrumentals are invited as singles, duets or groups," Meier said.

Entries for the Tuesday and Friday evening talent shows will be limited to dancing by ages 13-21. Thursday's show will include talent other than dancing for two groups, ages 6-12 and 12-21. Dancers ages 6-12 will perform at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

All winners in the 13-21 age group will compete in the 7:30 p.m. talent show finals on Aug. 21. The overall winner will be invited to the Youth Talent Contest at the Mid-South Fair in Memphis Sept. 24-Oct. 3.

"The Mid-South Fair will have a representative in Jackson on Saturday, Aug. 21, to talk to the final contestants. It is possible that more than the first-place winner will be invited to the Mid-South Fair," Meier said.

For additional information, or to enter the talent contest, write Meier, 1336 Highway 72 West, Jackson, Mo. 63755, or call 243-2100. Other talent show committee members and their telephone numbers are E.P. Kurre, 243-4140, and Jim Nelson, 243-4462.
