JACKSON -- Two Jackson band students have received first-chair honors in the Missouri Band Masters Association All-State Band Competition held in Columbia. About 800 student musicians competed. Ryan Harper, son of Paul and Pam Harper, will play trap set drums in the all-state jazz band. JACKSON -- Two Jackson band students have received first-chair honors in the Missouri Band Masters Association All-State Band Competition held in Columbia.

About 800 student musicians competed.

Ryan Harper, son of Paul and Pam Harper, will play trap set drums in the all-state jazz band. Nicole Schwent, daughter of Tim and Pat Schwent, will play lead alto saxophone in the all-state symphonic band. She also won a first-chair seat in last year's symphonic band.

Other students who received recognition were: Adrian Raney, alternate oboe; Erin Mirly, alternate bassoon; Craig Hutsin, alternate baritone saxophone; Jessica McCuan, honorable mention bassoon.

The students will play in January for the finale of the Missouri Music Educators Annual Convention at Tan-tar-a Resort.
