Jackson area residents got the chance to see firsthand the services provided by the Jackson Senior Center during an open house held Aug. 7 in observance of the center's 17th anniversary.
Over 80 area residents attended the open house to learn about the history of the center, tour the facilities and learn more about the programs available there.
The center grew out of the Jackson Community Senior Citizens Club which was formed in 1967. Its first meetings were held in the basement of the Jackson American Legion Hall.
As the group grew, so did the programs it offered. In 1978, the club reorganized as the Jackson Senior Center and became an incorporated organization in 1979.
In 1981, it purchased the former site of Lictenegger Grocery Store and expanded its services.
