The Jackson School Board approved bus routes for the 2011-2012 school year and made updates to board policies at its Tuesday night meeting.
Included in the updates to the board policies were changes required by the state legislature concerning corporal punishment and the reporting of child abuse and neglect.
The board updated its corporal punishment policy to include that a staff member may use reasonable force for the protection of a student, another person or for protection of property and that restraining a student would not be in violation of the policy.
The board's policy on reporting child abuse and neglect was updated with similar language that was required by Missouri House Bill 1543.
Jackson superintendent Dr. Ron Anderson said others updates included sentence changes in policies on board member conflict of interest and financial disclosure, programs for students with disabilities, evaluation of instructional programs, the A+ program and administration of medication to students.
The board also approved the annual Professional Development Plan and heard information on ongoing orientation of new staff from assistant superintendent Dr. Rita Fisher and an overview of projects in the district that will be completed before the start of school from Anderson.
