Jackson School Board OKs policy changes

The Jackson School Board approved changes to five board policies at a regular meeting Tuesday night. After each legislative session, the Missouri School Boards' Association suggests revisions to policies, which are reviewed by the district's lawyer. Changes to policies will be brought before the school board for the next several meetings, the superintendent said. A policy prohibiting discrimination and harassment was revised to require the appointment of a compliance officer, the posting of the policy publicly, and to include a three-step compliant process. As a result, a former separate grievance procedure policy was rescinded. Two policies relating to graduation exercises and the assignment of students to grade levels were revised to require schools to accept credit earned through the Missouri Virtual Instruction Program, or MoVIP. The language in a policy regarding advertising in district facilities was tweaked, but the message remains that the district will regulate to the fullest extent under law advertising on school property. The school board also approved the 2008 to 2009 tuition rate for non-residents, $6,354. Last year's rate was $5,805.
