In other business, the board:

  • Accepted the district's 2012-2013 audit presented by Darrell Songer, a partner with the St. Louis office of the accounting firm Clifton Larson Allen. Songer said the district received a "clean" audit.
  • Approved a tuition rate of $7,597.75 for nonresident students. Last year, the rate was $7,108.70. Districts that send students to Jackson schools pay the tuition, associate superintendent for finance/business operations Wade Bartels said. Bartels said nonresident students for Jackson usually come from the Nell Holcomb and Altenburg school districts, which don't have junior high and high schools. He said the tuition amount is based on 2012-2013 expenses to educate each student.
  • Heard a presentation from South Elementary principal Jessica Maxwell, assistant principal Shauna Criddle and seven teachers from the campus about its recognition by the state as an exemplary professional learning community school. PLCs are a school improvement model sponsored by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, according to the DESE website. Jackson High School also was recognized as an exemplary PLC school.
  • Learned about the accomplishments of the high school and junior high bands. A total of 127 Jackson students earned all-district band recognition, according to information from the district. This includes alternates.
  • Approved a resolution approving and authorizing the execution of amendments to the district's direct deposit agreements.
  • Heard praise for Monday's Veterans Day program at the high school from retired U.S. Marine Corps Master Sgt. David Larson.
  • Heard that the Jackson R-2 Foundation will award 27 grants Thursday totaling more than $12,000.
