The Jackson Rotary Club and numerous local businesses are putting on Hoopfest '97.

The three-on-three double-elimination basketball tournament will be held on May 3 on the outdoor courts of the new Jackson Middle School located on Hwy. D in Jackson.

There are five men's age divisions accommodating players from 10 years old and over. There are also three women's age divisions. There is an open division for players 16 and older for the more serious competitors.

This year's Hoopfest chairman, Steve Elefson, says their club is targeting for over 50 teams to enter the tournament.

"In Hoopfest I we had 38 teams. In spite of some bad weather that forced us inside, I think we hosted a good tournament and I think everyone had a good time. This year we have our weather contingency plans in place," Elefson said.

"Our goal is to grow this tournament a little each year and that's why we're targeting for 50 teams this year. The more teams the better the competition, and that means more fun for everyone," he added.

Proceeds from Hoopfest '97 will be used to pay for the one-mile paved jogging path in the Jackson City Park.

To enter the tournament contact the Jackson Rotary.
