April showers promise more than May flowers -- they bring the yard work as well, and the city of Jackson is reminding residents and business owners of their responsibilities under the its roadside mowing policy.
Adopted in March 2014, the policy holds landowners responsible for mowing the area known as the "right-of-way" between the edge of the street and the property line.
The city notified affected property owners last year by mail they will be expected to keep the area along the roadway near their properties mowed and maintained in accordance with city code.
A news release from the city stated although the responsibility for maintaining the right-of-way falls on property owners in most locations, the city will continue to maintain select locations for safety purposes.
Keeping right-of-ways properly maintained ensures safe sight lines at intersections and driveways as well as enhancing other safety elements. For more information, contact the public works department at 243-2300 or the police department at 243-3151.
