STODDARD COUNTY, Mo. - A Jackson man was struck by a car on Highway 25 at around 1:20 a.m. today, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports web site.

A 2005 Ford driven by an unidentified driver was parked in the roadway about 2 miles north of Advance, Mo., assisting David M. Merchant, 27, of Jackson when a 2003 Honda driven by James G. Smith, 47, of Dexter, Mo., struck the vehicle. This caused the Ford to then strike Merchant.

Merchant was taken by air evac to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Zenita D. Smith, 45, of Dexter, was a passenger in the Honda and was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center. Both were treated for moderate injuries.

The Honda was totaled and the Ford sustained extensive damage.
