A new snow route ordinance passed by the Jackson Board of Aldermen on Monday will prohibit the parking of motor vehicles, trailers and other conveyances along parts of 17 city streets during a snow removal proclamation.

Any vehicle or trailer left on the street during a snow removal proclamation issued by the public works director is subject to towing at the discretion of police officers. The owner would be responsible for any fees incurred during towing and storage. Streets in the uptown historic district are not included in the snow route.

Jackson public works director Rodney Bollinger the ordinance will allow road crews to work more efficiently.

"Put simply, the new ordinance is designed to keep certain major roadways in Jackson better plowed. This will allow more space for people to travel on snow routes and provide safer travel for citizens throughout the winter months," Bollinger said.
