JACKSON -- The Jackson Municipal Band will hold its weekly concert Thursday at 8 p.m. at the band shell in the Jackson City Park.
Guest conductor is Pat Schwent.
Special guests this week are a group of young jazz musicians that have become known as "The Jackson Five Jazzers." These performers have had success in jazz competitions across Missouri. Members include All-State jazz performers Matt Pittman on bass and Brandon Suedekem on saxophone. Other performers are Sharla Marshall on keyboard, Scott Coppin on drums and All-State performer Jamie Brother on trombone.
The band's portion includes selections form the movie "Robin Hood," Karl King's well-known "Trombone King," "Rootbeer Rag" will feature the sax section and Sousa's march "Gallant Seventh" will also be included.
A new polka, "Feuerest," and a collection of marches from Broadway musicals round out the program.
The concert is free. Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair.
