At 8 p.m. tonight the Jackson Municipal Band will hold its weekly concert at the band shell located on Route D in Jackson City Park.
Special guests will be the Southeast Flute Choir. This group, originally organized by Dr. Carol McDowell, now includes Melissa Brown as its present conductor. Members of the group include community and high school, university faculty, music academy faculty and university flutists. This group has performed at Chateau Girardeau, Jackson Swim Team Home Tours and Westfield Shoppingtown. Their program will be selected from "Baby Elephant Walk," Mississippi Rag," "Ode to Joy," "On Green Dolphin Street," "Pink Panther," and "When the Saints Go Marching In." Sam McGuire will accompany the group on string bass.
The band's portion of the concert will include marches including "Revival March," by Sousa, Karl King's "Barnum and Bailey's Favorites," and an arrangement of Harold Walter's "When The Saints Go Marching In." The overture for this concert will be Frank Erikson's "Sonatina for Band."
The program will also include several hits written and performed by Barry Manilow and the most famous hit songs from the Big Band Era. The clarinet section will be featured on the delightful "Taste of Licorice."
Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating and enjoy an evening of fine, wholesome entertainment.
