A Jackson man was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges that he sexually abuse a 9-year-old girl.

Gary K. Dupont, 37, will serve the bulk of that sentence under Missouri's truth-in-sentencing law, which requires defendants convicted of a so-called dangerous felony to serve a minimum 85 percent of the sentence.

Dupont, who had been scheduled for an arraignment, was facing charges of first-degree statutory sodomy. In October, he turned himself in and confessed to molesting a 9-year-old girl. Dupont told police he was remorseful, according to a probable-cause statement. He also said he told the same to the victim's mother.
