Jackson man pleads guilty to role in burglary spree

One of the three Jackson men implicated in a burglary spree that plagued Jackson and Cape Girardeau last fall has pleaded guilty.

Jacob Colyott, 19, withdrew his not guilty plea before Judge Benjamin Lewis earlier this week, copping to two felony counts that include one made more serious because one of the victims was home at the time of the offense. Lewis ordered the Missouri Department of Probation and Parole to conduct a presentence investigation before Colyott's Nov. 26 sentencing.

Colyott faces a possible punishment of up to 11 years in prison, but the plea and no prior criminal record makes probation seem likely.

With two counts, Colyott faced the fewest charges among his co-defendants. Aaron Denson and William Artadi face a total of 40 counts that also included theft and stealing firearms. Both remain incarcerated at the Cape Girardeau County Jail on $35,000 bond and have upcoming court appearances. Artadi has an arraignment scheduled for Monday in Judge William Syler's court and Denson goes before Judge Michael Bullerdieck on Wednesday.
