Jackson man pleads guilty to drug charges

A Jackson man faces up to 40 years in federal prison following a guilty plea on charges of possessing methamphetamine. Michael W. Brown pleaded guilty Tuesday to possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute in an appearance before U.S. District Judge Catherine D. Perry. Sentencing was set for Nov. 28. Brown was arrested after Jackson police officers conducting an investigation saw methamphetamine in plain view at Brown's Jackson residence. Brown consented to a search of his home, and authorities recovered 2.44 grams of methamphetamine in nine bags. An additional 16.9 grams of methamphetamine that belonged to Brown was also recovered from a residence in Cape Girardeau. Brown admitted that he intended to sell the drugs and had recently been selling small amounts of methamphetamine.

In addition to the prison sentence, Brown could be fined up to $2 million and face at least four years of supervised release after serving prison time.
