Jackson man killed in parking lot accident

A Jackson family is mourning the death of a loved one after a work-related accident took his life early Monday morning.

Don Seabaugh, 64, of Jackson was killed when a truck ran over him at his place of employment, Custom Express Inc., outside Fruitland near Procter & Gamble.

His family spent much of the day at their Jackson residence, talking about their fond memories of a father, grandfather and husband.

"We're just kind of all out of it right now," said Trisha Stortz, Seabaugh's daughter-in-law. "He was a loving husband and a very proud father. He was a very good man."

The accident occurred about 4:50 a.m. When Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's deputies arrived they found Seabaugh pinned under a "yard dog," a truck used to shuttle trailers back and forth between Custom and Procter & Gamble.

According to Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton, Seabaugh died immediately or almost immediately from massive internal wounds. The coroner had not yet determined an official time of death and cause of death.

Seabaugh was walking across the parking lot at work when he was struck by a truck driven by 41-year-old Alan S. Jannotti of Jackson, according to the sheriff's department. Lt. Vince Diebold with the sheriff's department said no charges have been filed because it appears Jannotti wasn't at fault.

"It was just a case where it was dark out, a guy was wearing dark clothes and walking," Diebold said. Witnesses told law enforcement officers Jannotti was driving under the 5 mph speed limit posted on the parking lot at the time of the accident.

Officials at Custom declined to comment on the accident but said Seabaugh had been employed there since 2001. Custom Express is a trucking dump where products from Procter & Gamble are dropped off for shipment.
