Jackson police arrested a man Tuesday in connection with burglaries, stealing, forgery and motor vehicle theft, according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department.

Joseph K. Howard, 18, of Jackson attempted to cash a stolen check at a bank in Jackson on Monday, and the teller, noting the altered appearance, refused to complete the transaction, the release said.

During an interview with police, Howard admitted to trying to cash the stolen check, which he obtained during a break-in at a home in Jackson. When police asked him about his connection with other thefts in the area, he confessed to forcing his way into two other Jackson businesses and stealing cash and checks from one and a vehicle from the other.

Howard faces three counts of burglary, one count of forgery and one count of stealing. Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.
