Jackson firefighters on Friday evening were investigating the cause of a fire early Friday morning that destroyed a vacant home on Oak Street. The blaze began after 1 a.m. at the empty residence on 710 Oak St., according to an official from the Jackson Fire Department. As firefighters arrived, the property was engulfed in smoke and flame on every side, according to the department. The fire official declined to release the name of the property owner but said that the man's daughter had moved out in recent weeks and that gas and electric service had been cut off. The house was a total loss, with the fire gutting the inside, according to the fire department.
