Five young women competed for the title of Miss Homecomers Tuesday at the Jackson Homecomers celebration. They were Mary Bauer, Suzanne E. Burke and Julie Mothershead, all of Cape Girardeau, and Kacey Shultz and Alexis C. Bogenpohl of Jackson.
Mary Bauer, a 15-year-old Notre Dame Regional High School student, was crowned 2006 Miss Homecomers. She is the daughter of Bob and Teresa Bauer. Bauer will also compete in the Homecomers talent show and assist with the evening activities during the week of Homecomers.
Mothershead, 15, was voted Miss Congeniality by other contestants. She is the daughter of Russ and Kim Mothershead. School activities and honors include membership on the Tiger Dance Team, A honor roll and A team junior high basketball. She is a first-place dance competition winner, Missouri State Lady Bear Basketball Camper award-winner, received the eighth-grade citizenship award from the DAR, and is the reigning Miss Springfield Outstanding Teen. Mothershead placed in the top ten in the 2006 Miss Missouri's Outstanding Teen pageant out of 37 contestants. She plans to pursue a degree in business or finance, returning to the family business.
Bauer's school activities and honors include participation on the school dance team, treble choir, Encore, Blue Crew and honor roll. She won an American Legion Christian Leadership Award for 2005, First SEMO History Day, regional winner of a handwriting contest in 2005. Her plans for the future may include attending the University of Mississippi, Oxford, to pursue a career in physical therapy.
Burke is a 16-year-old Cape Central High School student. She is an academic honor student, Red Dagger thespian member and all-state vocalist. She is considering becoming a veterinarian, drama and music performer and/or a teacher.
Schultz is a 16-year-old Jackson High School student. She is a member of the girls' chorus. She is considering becoming a counselor to help children.
Bogenpohl is a 15-year-old Jackson High School student. Activities and honors include FBLA membership, receipt of an academic letters for two years, the Red Carpet award, teen advisory group perfect attendance, Spanish student of the quarter, cheerleading and band. She is considering becoming a pharmacist.
