The city of Jackson is going to get a bit bigger after Tuesday night's board of aldermen meeting.
City officials adopted a series of ordinances regarding annexation and development of just over 33 acres on Old Cape Road East near Klaus Park.
Developer Ramsey Branch LLC requested the annexation and corollary proposals, and they intend to use the land to establish a subdivision for residents 55 and older.
"It will be an active-living community, where [senior residents] will be able to live among their peers," said Realtor Bobby Gray, who represented Ramsey Branch.
Single-family homes would comprise the majority of the subdivision, but it would include a number of duplexes for prospective members of the community.
The Board also adopted an ordinance which would rezone all 33.22 acres from R-1 (single-family residential) to R-3 (one- and two-family residential) to accommodate the proposed multifamily houses.
The approval of a special use permit and Ramsey Branch Subdivision's preliminary plat were the last two steps of the initial approval process the city handled during the meeting. Gray said there are additional engineering concerns that need to be worked out that can be addressed now that the board has given the project the green light.
"We'll take care of finishing the engineering work and then submit it back to the city for another round of approval," he said, estimating the process may take 60 to 90 days. "In the meantime, we may be able to get some work done moving dirt, depending on the conditions."
Although the company hasn't been publicizing much about the subdivision during the approval process, he said more information will be available once construction begins.
