The Jackson Senior Center's annual Meals-On-Wheels walk-a-thon saw a big turnout despite the rain on May 16. Tom Novak, event sponsor, spoke briefly on the importance of the walk-a-thon and how the Jackson community supports it. Community members' efforts in helping one another after the tornado could not go unnoticed and was mentioned in his speech.
Door prizes were donated by area businesses; blood pressure checks were performed by registered nurse Dianna Martin. Prizes were awarded to volunteers and all those who collected donations. Clara Seabaugh was honored with an award for collecting the most individual contributions; Gilbert Leimer was honored for obtaining the most corporate sponsors. More than $5,000 was pledged.

We are glad to have Ginny Jones, Bill Gill, Sue Hendrix and Melton Kasten back with us after surgery.
Betty Palmer won the May birthday drawing; Clara and Lloyd Seabaugh won the anniversary drawing. Zalma Sperling, at 89 years young, was the oldest in a month celebrating 14 birthdays. Ray and Jo Leadbetter and Sloan and Ruby Tuschhoff provided the music; Jean Warren and Dot Lincoln were hosts of the party.
New faces
Laura Long, previously the center's van driver, has taken Faye Sandusky's place in the kitchen.
The new county van driver is Nancy Limbaugh Rocha. She was born and raised in the Sedgewickville area; she and her husband, John, now live in Fruitland. They were truck drivers for six years. The Rochas have a son and a daughter, one grandson and another grandchild on the way. Rocha likes sewing, fishing, gardening and cooking.
Volunteer of the month
Marie Littlepage volunteers at serving, washing dishes and at any job she can do to be useful. She began volunteering after her husband, Gerald, passed away in 1997. Littlepage has two sons, two daughters and eight grandchildren.

A huge garage sale is planned for July. Donations and space rentals are available by calling director Debbie Stockton at 243-4241.
