The Jackson Municipal Band will hold its weekly concert on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Band Shell located off Route D in the Jackson City Park.
Special guest for this week's show is fiddler Steve Schaffner.
Schaffner is a native of Cape Girardeau and a graduate of Augusta College in Augusta, Ga. For the past four years, he has worked as string instructor at the Davidson Fine Arts Institute in Augusta.
Schaffner has returned to Cape Girardeau as the new orchestra instructor for Cape Public Schools.
He has also spent three years touring with the Narvel Felts Band, during which time he fronted for country stars such as George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Ronnie Milsap and others. His most recent appearance was at the "Grand Ole Opry" in Nashville as a member of Felt's band.
He will be joined on stage by guitarist Steve Pirtle and will offer a demonstration of fiddle playing from Cajun to Ozark Mountain and everywhere in between.
The band's portion of the concert will include: "Second Suite in F," "Country Hits," "The Fabulous Country," "California," "Nobles of the Mystic Shrine," "Wabash Cannonball" and others.
