The Jackson Municipal Band will hold its last Thursday concert this week at the Band Shell at 8 p.m.
The band will have two more concerts, but they will not be held at the Shell. The Aug. 13 concert will be held on stage at Homecomers and the Aug. 22 concert will be held in the gazebo, in uptown Jackson.
The special guest this week will be Jonathan Stewart. Stewart received a degree in vocal performance from Southeast Missouri State University. He attended graduate school at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and is presently completing his master's degree in choral conducting at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
Stewart recently toured Spain with the internationally-known "Shorter Chorale" from Rome, Ga. He is presently singing with and serving as assistant conductor to the St. Louis Chamber Chorus.
Stewart will perform "Siloloquy" from Carousel, "Man of La Mancha" and "Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha, plus "Seventy-six Trombones" and "'Til There Was You" from Music Man. His accompanist will be Beverly Reece.
The instrumental portion of the concert will be highlighted by Marc Fulgham, trumpet instructor for Southeast Missouri State University, who will be featured in the Raphael Mendez trumpet solo "The Bull Fighter's Song." Fulgham will be joined by Jackson High School band director Scott Vangilder on Sonata for two piccolo trumpets.
The concert will also include "Second Suite in F," "Strategic Air Command," "Trombraro," "Daughters of Texas," "Puttin' on the Ritz" and several other selections.
Admission to the concert is free. Entrance to the Band Shell parking lot is located off Route D, across from McCombs Funeral Home.
