JACKSON - The Jackson Board of Aldermen Monday authorized the installation of street lights at several locations.

The board also opened bids for the city's liability insurance coverage, and approved the friendly annexation of a tract of land that adjoins the northwest corner of the city.

Ten street lights will be installed; three on Greenway Drive, from East Jackson Boulevard to Country Club Place; one light on the east property line of Century 21 Dutch Realty, at 2707 E. Jackson Blvd.; and six lights on East Main Street, from Neal Street to Shawnee Boulevard.

Two bids were received for the city's liability insurance coverage. The bid of Lakenan Insurance was $55,138. The bid submitted by MOPERM (Missouri Public Entity Risk Management) was for $47,682. Both bids were referred to the street committee for further evaluation.

The board approved a resolution authorizing the friendly annexation of the Rosewood Two subdivision, situated on Route D at the northwest edge of the city. The annexation involves approximately 25-30 acres.

The board also heard an update on an effort by several property owners to have the Grandview Acres subdivision annexed into the city. The subdivision is on Highway 25, a short distance south of the present city limits.

Acting City Engineer Rich Bowen reported the East Adams paving project has been completed. Bowen said that, weather permitting, work on the Missouri-Adams street intersection can be completed in a few days.

Mayor Paul Sander said TCI Cablevision of Missouri informed him the Prime Sports Network channel may not be taken off the cable at Jackson to make room for the Starz/Encore-8 pay television movie channel. At their last meeting, the aldermen expressed opposition to the switch.
