Jackson aldermen approve temporary street closure

The Jackson Board of Aldermen approved a motion Monday to temporarily close Missouri Street from Jackson Boulevard to Madison Street. The move was requested by Johnny Guffey of Zoellner Construction to help accommodate the oversized deliveries made to the construction site at Jackson High School.

The closure will start Monday and last for 30 days. Before the closure, the city will conduct a survey of the road. Zoellner and its subcontractors will be responsible for any damage to the road during the closure.

The council also accepted a measure allowing the city to purchase any excess energy generated by individuals or businesses within the city limits using alternative energy sources, such as solar panels.

Aldermen also approved the city's participation in a fire recovery program. The insurance policy will allow the city to recoup any money paid when the Jackson Fire Department responds to a vehicle accident involving non-Jackson residents.

Aldermen also set a date for a public hearing on the U.S. 61 conceptual design and feasibility study on decreasing traffic congestion in the uptown area. The hearing is set for 6 p.m. June 21 at Jackson City Hall.
