The public will have a chance next month to ask questions of representatives of Three Rivers Community College, an institution that one day could establish a campus in Jackson.

During its Monday meeting, the Jackson Board of Aldermen approved a motion for an Oct. 13 reception with Three Rivers president Dr. Devin Stephenson from 6 to 8 p.m. inside city hall.

"Because our board of aldermen are so excited about the possibility of TRCC coming to the city of Jackson, we want to give other interested members of our community the opportunity to meet Dr. Devin Stephenson and hear his thoughts on the future of TRCC in our area," Jackson Mayor Barbara Lohr said.

Talks with city officials and Three Rivers representatives have been ongoing since 2007, when the Poplar Bluff, Mo.,-based institution was looking to open a center in Cape Girardeau.

On Aug. 17, the aldermen approved a 15-acre land donation to the college. The land is on U.S. 61 south of Fruitland. Three Rivers will receive the property if it elects to build a center on the site.

In other action, the board:

* Authorized payment of $34,775 to Alliance Water Resources Inc. of Columbia, Mo., for providing services under the 2010 Meter Reading Services Program.
