BENTON -- Even though the majority of incumbents filed for office Feb. 27, some of their opponents waited until the deadline Tuesday to file.
Jim Smiley was the eighth person to file for the 2nd District commissioner's seat. Incumbent Wayne Petitt also filed. His opponents are Robert Niederkorn, Charles Klueppel, Ben Evans, Joe Lee Michael, Bud Dock and David Coop Dirnberger.
Kelly Swain is the Republican candidate for the 2nd District commissioner's seat.
There are only two other contested races in the county. Assessor Teresa Houchin will face James Eddie Brewer and Gerald Inman in the primary race. Louie Hirschowitz and Clifford Pobst will oppose Public Administrator Sonny Alcorn.
Other officeholders who filed for re-election were 1st District Commissioner Walter Bizzell, Assessor Teresa Houchin, Sheriff Bill Ferrell, Coroner Scott Amick and Surveyor Norman Lambert.
All the races are for four-year terms.
