The city is in the process of installing a water line along Gordonville Road, which is the first step in widening Mount Auburn to four or five lanes from Independence to Route K.

According to assistant city engineer Melanie Gertis, the project has hit a couple of minor snags.

At the beginning of the project, she said, the contractor had to get a couple of gas lines moved and more recently the contractor hit some rock that has made work difficult.

Once the water line is installed -- which should be in November -- widening of Mount Auburn can begin.

It is not yet known if the section of road will contain a turn lane. The plans call for just four lanes, but the city has decided to put out bids for five lanes and four. If the city can get five lanes for less than the projected cost of four lanes, then the project will include a turn lane.
