Individuals interested in becoming a part of the volunteer program for Southeast Hospice, a service of Southeast Missouri Hospital, are invited to attend a Hospice Information Night Sept. 21.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the hospice office, 760 S. Kingshighway.
Volunteer coordinator Carol Keppler said the meeting will outline the role volunteers play in the hospice concept of care.
Developed in 1985, Southeasts' hospice program provides services for individuals and families in the final phase of a terminal illness so that they may live as comfortably as possible.
Individuals who want to become volunteers take a 30-hour training program, including general principles of patient care, the hospice concept, effective communications, spiritual and emotional issues, death and dying and the grief process. The training is free.
Fo more information, call the hospice office at 335-6208.
