INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- The publisher of The Examiner in Independence said the newspaper will stop producing a Monday edition.
But Steve Curd said The Examiner won't be cutting back on news coverage as it continues to produce a daily paper Tuesday through Saturday.
The newspaper said the change, starting Jan. 12, will help control rising costs without making significant cuts to the staff or quality of the product.
Curd says the goal is to fill five editions with more local content than the newspaper had in six editions prior to the change. The staff also wants to focus on its website.
The Monday issue usually ranks lowest in readership, leading the newspaper to turn that edition into a tabloid format a year ago.
The newspaper says the format was successful in gaining advertiser support, but got mixed reaction from readers.
The weekly Health tabloid section will be moved to the Tuesday paper.
