INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) -- Police are investigating the shooting deaths of a couple in their Independence home.
A man and woman, both in their 20s, were discovered inside the house Wednesday after the shooting at about 3:45 p.m. An infant found at the scene was taken into custody of state child welfare workers.
Police spokesman Tom Gentry said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man died at a hospital. Their names and details about what happened have not been released. Gentry said murder-suicide has not been ruled out.
Neighbor Jamie Hoke told The Kansas City Star that she had become acquainted with the woman. Hoke said the woman told her that she and the man were unmarried and had a 5-month-old son.
