An incumbent and a former school board member were the two winners in the Scott City School Board election Tuesday.
David Gene Thompson, who was elected to the board in 2007, and Lisa Schaefer, who served on the board from 2004 to 2007, won from a field of seven candidates.
Schaefer was the top vote-getter, with 174, while Thompson received 157 votes. E.D. "Nub" Boswell finished with the third-most votes at 109.
Schaefer, who lost re-election bids in 2007 and 2008, said she was looking forward to tackling what she believes will be the most-pressing issues during her term.
"The biggest problem is funding and finding a solution to it," Schaefer said.
Thompson said he hopes to continue improving curriculum and educational opportunities for students in the district. He said it's too early to determine the effect state budget cuts could have on the his goals.
"We looked at the budget already, but we won't know a true picture of funds we'll receive for our district until sometime in May," Thompson said.
