Improvements in the works
The $3.1 million in water system improvements Jackson is going to make in the next two years include:
-- Building a water line that will tie Ridge Road into Greensferry Road, crossing the western border of Bent Creek Golf Course.
-- Building a new line from the city treatment plant to Ridge Road and to the new East Main Street extension. This line will tie into a line at Oak Hill Road running out to the city water tower on I-55. "That will provide better pressure on the whole east side of town," Public Works Director Jim Roach says.
-- A new pump and controls at the treatment plant.
-- Increasing the size of the existing water line on Greensferry Road. "Greensferry Road is the worst existing area as far as having poor pressure," Roach says.
-- Running pipe from Bainbridge to the Trail Ridge subdivision.
-- Running a line from Lee Avenue to the Orchard Street water tower on the west side of town.
-- Improving the line in the area of Kimbeland Golf Course.
-- Possibly running a new line from Greensferry Road north and East to Oak Hill Road.
