Illinois State Police report plenty of leads but no arrests yet in slaying of Anna man

ANNA, Ill. -- Illinois State Police "have some good solid leads" into the death of a man found in a burned-out car in Pulaski County, but troopers don't have enough to make an arrest, a police official said Monday.

The $5,000 reward offered by Pulaski County government for information in the death of Trea Hannah of Anna has yielded hundreds of calls, said Master Sgt. David Baker, investigations supervisor at the state police District 13 office. And more calls continue to come in, but they have slowed to a trickle.

"It is making progress," Baker said of the investigation. "It is slow. We have some good, solid leads we are following up."

Hannah, 23, was found Jan. 4 in his burned-out Mercury Tracer in a remote area of Pulaski County. The last confirmed sighting of Hannah was Dec. 29 in both Anna in Union County and in Pulaski County. His parents reported him missing on Jan. 2.

Police have not released details of whether Hannah died in the fire or was already dead when the fire was set.

Reward offered

When the reward was first offered Jan. 12, Pulaski County State's Attorney Grayson Gile predicted it would only be a few days before forensic evidence led to an arrest in the case. Gile said the reward would not be available after forensic evidence confirmed a suspect or suspects as the killers.

Forensic test results on evidence collected at the scene are still being conducted, Baker said. On Monday, he said the chances of the evidence confirming the guilt of any suspect was remote.

"I can't believe it would pinpoint any specific person," he said.

Troopers want anyone with details of the crime or who saw Hannah on or around Dec. 29 to call the Illinois State Police District 22 office in Ullin at (618) 845-3740, extension 280.

Investigators are promising anonymity to anyone who calls, Baker said.
